Kow-Ata Underground Lake

A long staircase leads about 60 meters down to a lake of mineral water that stays at around 3
 . The water smells of sulfur, the cave is dim and humid, and bats live under the ceiling. Locals come here to bathe for their health, and you can join them.

Bring swimwear, a towel and shoes with good grip: the steps are steep and can be wet. Swimming depends on the site being open and on local rules. If you prefer not to swim, the cave itself is worth the stop.

The lake is near the town of Baharly. Most tours visit it on a day trip from Ashgabat together with Nohur. On longer tours we stop here on the way west to the Caspian coast.
